The “Little” Letter to the Community

Why “little”? That’s because the real letter, our epic letter, will be available at the start of April. In the meantime, since we have some tasty tidbits to share with you and because we promised to keep in touch, here is our “little” letter...
Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well? Before I get started, I just want to say once again that we will be sending out our proper letter to the community at the start of April. It will contain one of the tools I love the most: the calendar. This year, in addition to revealing what’s in store in the DOFUS AND WAKFU games, you’ll find information about comic book and manga releases and the dates of upcoming events and other community events. Our teams are working on it right now so you can read our news, hot off the press, very soon.

But more about the DOFUS movie...

We are continuing to work with Indie Sales to sell our film outside of France. People think that a 2D-film has to be for children, so DOFUS has had trouble finding its audience. I would actually go as far as to say that, if you make an animated feature film you have to accept that only kids will see it, end of story. That really is the reality. Since DOFUS is in 2D and targets cinema-goers who are 8-years and over, this has confused many distributors who don’t really know what to do with it... We will keep you posted as soon as we have any more news!

In the end, we will probably only sell about 80,000 to 90,000 movie tickets... that’s quite sad really. But it’s not just sad for our baby, it’s also sad for 2D animation in general. The last four French animated films that were produced in 2D sold roughly 100,000 tickets, which is something that has really started me thinking. I also realise, that without all of you, the players, this number would be even smaller. I really hope that what we are seeing is just a lull in 2D animation because, as you know, this is a technique that is very close to our heart at Ankama. We always work in 2D, whether we are creating a series, a film, or even a video game. I am crossing my fingers that the DOFUS film will find its audience when it is released on DVD and VOD.

Anyway, that doesn’t mean this hasn’t been an incredible adventure for all of us! Personally, I am so proud of everything we have accomplished. I loved working on the project, loved the human adventure backstage, loved meeting all of you to talk about it... I loved everything. To make this experience really sublime, it “just” had to do a little better at the box office too!

You know, when you spend so much time working on a project something really unusual happens. It is as if it becomes a living, breathing thing, that you want to support and keep on loving. It’s quite a strange feeling and hard to explain. It’s not just a “product” anymore, it’s something so much more than that... Every character truly exists and is a part of you, like a friend or a parent. Joris, Lilotte, Bakara, Khan, Kerubim, Marline, Julith and all the others are alive somewhere in some parallel universe. They can’t wait to tell us about the amazing adventures they’re having... we can’t leave them behind, so let’s just say, “See you soon”.

On another note, we are going to be at the Salon Polymanga in Switzerland with JJ on the 26 and 27 March and at the FICAM Meknès in Morocco on Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 March. Drop by for a chat.

A small fan-art interlude now: Thanks to Estéban and Barbottine (his dad) for the drawings we just received. They are absolutely fantastic!

Barbottine sent us the original drawings he did of the forum avatars and they are going to look great framed on our wall!

The DDOS attacks.

Over the last few days, we have had quite a few outside attacks. You experienced it while you were playing and on the websites – we experienced it across our entire network infrastructure. With this kind of attack, it is as if you were strolling down the street minding your own business and suddenly a guy jumps out at you yelling, “Surprise!” – you didn’t see it coming, it freaks you out, your heart is pounding and you have trouble getting your bearings afterwards. But from now on, you look tentatively around every street corner because you don’t want him to do it again.

Our technicians and developers have sweated quite a lot over this and put in place protection measures and boulstered the security of our servers. While the situation seems to have stabilised, we are still on action stations.

Even if we weren’t responsible for the attacks, we do apologise for the inconvenience they caused. If you would like more information about this, please check out what we have done on the DOFUS forum.

WAKFU’s birthday

4-years old already, and it is the WAKFU game’s first real birthday. There have been a few bumps and bruises over the years. For French speakers, the differences between Aerafal and Dathura divided players for a long time. Now we are doing our best to bring our players closer together, to fix the bugs and add new, mindblowing content, in short, it is time to set fire to our imagination again.

Feel free to leave us comments about your personal experience over the last 4 years and tell us what you would like to see happen in the next 4 years.

What we are working on at the moment

To conclude, I’d like to tell you about what we have been working on in the last few months. I’m not talking about the content on MMO, which will have lots of its own news very soon, but about our own: “to be continued”.

As you know, we are up to Season 3 in the WAKFU series and are still working on Krosmaga, which is looking better and better every day... Similarly, DOFUS Touch and the tablet version of Krosmaster will be arriving in the first half of 2016. All of these games will be given a beautiful launch very soon, as we mentioned a little earlier.

What I want to tell you now, is about something slightly different. For a few years, I have been dreaming of a “Krosmoz World”. This would be more than just a game, it would be an entire platform that brings together all of our media and all of our creative plans. For quite a while, we have been jotting things down and now we want to actually launch the machine. It is quite hard to talk about it at the current time, but we want you to be part of this project, like you were for the launch of DOFUS over ten years ago.

“Krosmoz World” is a simple idea, but in practice it is actually very complicated: we want to redevelop all of our games and make them part of a single, vast chronology. Ultimately, I dream about seeing DOFUS players meet WAKFU players for the very first time in great voyages through time. I dream of integrating our cartoons and comic books directly into the games... so that they are no longer just games but genuine trans-media experiences. You will no longer be the player of one particular game or another, but a resident of the Krosmoz universe.

We are trying to imagine a simpler and more advanced game design (particularly in terms of the professions) and most of all we want a platform that can be played on any device, whether it is PC/MAC, tablet, or why not, a game console.

Whatever happens, this is a very long-term project. So, don’t get too excited yet and don’t expect any news about it in the next few weeks, this is going to take a very long time... Our main objective is to create a video in coming months to present an outline of the idea and to gather your feedback. We want to create a project that can re-use all of the great things we have made, and above all, to create a project that we can build hand-in-hand with you. Make no mistake, this will not stop us from working on our existing games, but you will learn more about that in the next official letter to the community!

See you very soon

Ankama’s joining the VR revolution!

Several weeks before the release of the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, we have an announcement to make. Sit down (if you aren’t already), pinch yourself to make sure you’re not dreaming and then read the following: Ankama’s going virtual!

At the beginning of March, the world heard all about new advances in virtual reality (VR) at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This month, two of the biggest contenders will see a retail release. In the face of such incredible progress in this technology, we are considering adapting our video games to this as yet unexplored territory!

But which headset to choose? The Oculus Rift, which is pretty versatile in terms of VR technology on PC? The Vive, which puts this new tech to better use by fully utilizing space and movement, but appears to be more experimental? Or maybe the PlayStation VR, which is a serious competitor on the console front? It’s hard to say right now...

Unless we opt for a fourth and more radical option...
What if we at Ankama, as is so often the case, were to commit ourselves fully to this new experience by developing our own headset, the Ankama VR? Well, right now, we feel this is the most likely solution!

We will obviously keep you updated on how this project is going, but if we decide to go ahead with the last option we mentioned, then we wouldn’t expect to release this virtual reality headset any time before summer 2019.

In the meantime, how do you feel about this? Ready for the Ankama VR?

New! Ruel 6-pack

He’s young, handsome, buff and not afraid to put his hand in his wallet! No, wait a minute... Sorry, that’s a different hero. Let’s start again. Uh, he’s not really very handsome. He’s pretty ancient. And six-packs aren’t really his thing (apart from the pack name!). And, well... he’s an Enutrof. But you’re bound to love him! Ruel has split himself into six for your enjoyment, and that’s barely enough!

Surprise! As an addition to the Chafers and ancient Ghouls from Season 4, a new pack of six Krosmaster figurines will soon be released: six versions of Ruel, both a real treat to behold and to play with! There will be a Ruel for every level and in a range of looks, meaning you’ll be able to use the character to your advantage in many, many different teams. He’s here, there and everywhere; it’s enough to make even Yugo jealous...

The figurines are still being designed, but we can already give you an overview of our favorite Enutrof’s multiple skills!

One cannot teach an old Ruel-monkey new tricks! He'll play around with you for a while and then vanish... As a matter of fact, this monkey's speciality is doing acrobatics and jumping over set pieces on the board!

Daggers will be drawn if anybody asks Ruel for a kama. Vampyro only made a slight tweak to his basic instincts... Swift and dangerous, he gets faster the richer your opponents are!

In his youth, Ruel was known to get up on stage from time to time and sing for his supper. When his voice broke... well, folks made a break for it as well. Who is gonna get away this time?!

Even after he passed away to the Other Side, you won't get rid of Ruel so easily... Well, we can't really get mad at him for that. He's being spiritual, for once!

Ruel will do anything to support his favorite Gobbowl team. It’s still a bit weird that he looks so good dressed as a cheerleader... A support Krosmaster like no other (luckily!).

If you pick on his friends, it’ll make Ruel’s blood boil and he’ll merge with his Drheller Kamasu Tar, transforming into an incredibly bad-tempered monster.

With this Ruel six-pack, your opponents are gonna end up six feet under...

Soon to appear in the Shop... unless the ship carrying it goes down on its way here!

Online tournament: May the best win!

You probably know what a Krosmaster tournament is like in real life. But this particular tournament will be online! Get the best progression in ranked play in a week and you may win virtual Krosmasters!

For the first time since its official release, we will hold an official tournament in Krosmaster Arena online! You will compete for virtual prizes with your computer or tablet. But just because you’re sitting comfortably at home doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy: you will have to prove yourself in ranked play for a whole week…

The rules are the following:

  • On April 18th, a new ranked season will begin, and the ranks will be reset. The tournament will run for a whole week at this, from Aprils 18th at noon (Paris time) to April 25th at noon.

  • During this time, we will measure the player’s progression in ranked play, meaning the difference between its position at the beginning of the season and at the end of the tournament. Even if a player doesn’t make it to the Elite rank, we will be able to track their progression.
    • If there’s an equality at the end of the week, we will use the win rate of the players during that same period of time.

  • This event is separated by community, and only members of a given community will be taken into account in that community’s results, without interference from the others.

Once the event concludes, the best players will receive the following prizes:

  • From 1st to 4th place: Wakfu, Stasis and Goldenrod Terminatot virtual figurines, 10 standard Krosboxes.
  • From 5th to 10th place: Wakfu, Stasis and Goldenrod Terminatot virtual figurines, 5 standard Krosboxes.
  • From 11th to 20th place: Wakfu and Stasis Terminatot virtual figurines, 3 standard Krosboxes.

Warm up your teams, rethink your strategies, and get ready to brawl! We hope to see you on Monday when the tournament begins!

Letter to the Community #03

$

Before you go ahead and explore our letter, it is important to note that no dev have been harmed for this information ... well ... officially! Here are the details on what the different teams are working on in the KROZMOZ!

Hello all,

Here we are already at the 3rd letter to the community. I don't know about you, but I get the impression time's passing incredibly fast at the moment. Is it springtime? Or maybe the end of a few huge adventures like the film?

Whatever it is, with this new letter, you might see the opposite effect, and find that time is passing slowly, because it's big.

I've already said that the purpose of this letter to the community is to keep you informed of everything that we're currently working on here at Ankama. So there's a little bit of everything and it's going to seem very long if you read it all at once .

On the animation side of things, we've finished with the DOFUS film adventure, so you'll find a little recap later on, and we're currently getting organized for projects to come.

As for the games:

The KROSMAGA team is advancing quite well. Some among you in France even got to test the alpha in recent days. On a related note, here are some of the character designs created by Xavier Houssin, Kim Ettinoff and Romain Pergod :

What do you think if we went in this artistic direction with future content for our MMOs?

The DOFUS TOUCH team is reaching the end of their marathon and we're impatient to make it available to you. What's interesting is that, with tablets being 4:3, we have the impression that DOFUS was made for them. The game is enjoying a renewed youthfulness, and I think it will be (in terms of content) one of the most complete games on tablet.

In the background, and always centered around the Krosmoz universe, we have a grand plan of attack that we're impatient to share with you. There's still lots to consider, but once we're further along, we'll tell you more.

As for DOFUS and WAKFU, we definitely noticed that the calendar didn't really inspire you, and I understand only too well. We agree that it looks rather empty.

But know that there's lots of content that hasn't yet been detailed, and that the teams are planning on adding that progressively. For example, for DOFUS, two enormous projects are in progress. The first concerns a complete revamp of the interfaces. The more keen among you will certainly have felt that something was coming, because we asked for your opinions on the forums. We'll tell you more about that in this letter. And the other big project is transforming DOFUS into 16:9... It's a big job and it's going to take us a lot of time, but we consider it indispensable, and a way to make DOFUS feel new again.

Internally, we've had some difficulties "promising" too much out of fear of exposing ourselves to your collective wrath if we are unable to deliver, and so from your side, what you've been offered seems very light, even if that's not really the case. It's doubtless our way of explaining that isn't working, and I hope that this letter will make things a little clearer.

In conclusion, I'd like to thank the Swiss we met at Polymanga. 1,300 people were there to see the DOFUS film. Thank you for your patience, because I know some of you were there at 2 p.m. to catch the showing at 6 p.m. What's more, the projection was really low quality: the image was too dark, the sound was rotten, and I had a lot of trouble keeping my cool when I saw the conditions our baby was being shown in... But your reactions quickly lifted our spirits along with Jean-Jacques, and I thank you so very much for your welcome. We'd like very much to come back next year.

The week after, we were in Meknès, Morocco. The ambience was completely different. What a change of scene. Frankly it was magic. I was bawling during the first projection when I found out that a large part of the children in the room had never in their lives been to the cinema before. What a magnificent gift they gave us... I'd also like to take the opportunity to thank the 20 or so players that we met. Guys, I've only got one thing to tell you: I love your sense of humor.

To wrap up, we'll be at the NonStop Festival in Barcelona on May 19th and 20th. Don't hesitate to come by and see us if you're in the area!

I wish you all happy reading.

Tot

KROSMASTER

About Duel Pack 3

Since its announcement, some of you are waiting eagerly for Duel Pack 3, containing both Anathar and the Justice Knight. However, its release has been delayed time and time again. How come? This pack was the last one produced in our old factory, and due to production troubles, we have been unable to getting our hands on it. The situation could resolve itself in a couple of days or a couple of months…

We cannot give you a definite date of release yet: it will insert itself into our planning whenever it will be ready. But as soon as we catch a glimpse of Duel Pack 3, you will be the first one to know!

Krosmaster Arena 2.0 and Season 4

These two upcoming products have also received their fair share of attention from the community. Are they stuck in the factory, too? Not at all! However, when Krosmaster Arena 2.0 was pre-released in France, some players have reported quality issues on certain figurines. As a result, we have taken extra care to recalibrate and improve our figurine-making process for all of our future releases.

Without giving you a precise release date (we all know how tricky those are for Krosmaster!), these two should be released during summer. They will be followed by a new Season 4 tournament kit, with its share of new prizes.

I feel like you still want more… Well, how about a good, old-fashioned spoiler? We have noticed that the Sphincter Cell has caught the attention of many players, especially with a partial spoiler of his turtle-summons floating around. Therefore…

Online Game

Updates have been calmer on the online game since the tablet release. As a matter of fact, the Krosmaster team is currently a hand to the Krosmaga team, and will assist them until the game’s release. This has, of course, slowed down the progress on new updates.

Slowed down, but not completely stopped, as the new update will include Krosmaster Arena’s 2.0 rules set! Season 4 and Duel Pack 3’s figurines are also being worked on, in order to release them as close to their physical counterpart as possible.

A word from Dewit

I’ve seen quite a bit of anxious messages around the internet lately, all about Krosmaster’s future. It’s true that our releases have been more spread out, we give out spoilers less frequently, and the game has slowed down recently…

I want to say it clear and loud for everyone: no, Krosmaster is not dying. There is absolutely no talks of shutting down operations and leave our players in the dust. The truth is that the second half of 2015 was a rough one for us, forcing us to reorganize ourselves deeply, and it’s only after months that we were able to stabilize and get back to our work for the future of the game.

We still have the will and the heart to continue, to bring you the products that were previously announced and even more releases afterwards, to widen Krosmaster’s array of possibilities. I totally understand that the wait is getting long, but it will be worth it in the end!

In the meantime, I’m sure we can find you bits of snippets of the future to show you…

Inter-Server Kolossium Update

A word from Simsoft

Multiple tests carried out on the Beta client were fruitful for the Inter-Server Kolossium infrastructure. In particular, the most recent version (2.34) and the large number of players in the Beta allowed us to take stock of the general state of the project's development, and correct several critical bugs.

Considering our current advancement on the ISK, we're confident in saying it will be released some time in the month of July. We're staying cautious (you should know us by now!) and so we'd prefer a progressive roll-out: just one or maybe two servers at first, in order to let us study how it works in real conditions, and the rest of the servers will come later. Which means that not everyone will get access to the ISK at the same time. But rest assured, this project is a priority for our dev team. We'll do everything we can for an efficient deployment, as quickly as possible.

Mysteries & Extensions

A word from Halden

If you've wandered around Sufokia's coast, you've surely seen it: a gigantic submarine has emerged from the waters of the bay. The town's inhabitants are talking about nothing else... The Sea Council has, of course, tried to learn more. A delegation went and met the occupants of the imposing submersible. Friends or enemies? Councilor Viktoria Punkhurst remains very discreet on the subject.

Since the authorities are remaining silent, the intrepid Polly Perkin, a journalist with the Sufokia Dispatch, led an investigation... She managed to meet the captain of the submarine. Despite the rumors, he's not one of Merkator's henchmen, but a dignified (and very attractive, according to Miss Perkin) representative of the Sea People, the ancestors of the Foggernauts. This proud officer claimed to be in the service of a monarch who was impatient to meet the people on the surface.

Have the founders of Sufokia returned to the city they themselves built several centuries ago? If this information is true, it will mark the beginning of a new era for the city. Who knows what the Ancients' technomagic will help accomplish? Those that dream of exploring the last vestiges of mystery lying deep beneath the surface may soon see their dream realized... but the creatures that live in the abysses may not appreciate the intrusion into their domain.

Interfaces

A word from Furylaxx

You've certainly noticed that recently we've been frequently asking your opinion of the interfaces. To this end, we've created The Dofus Lab: a place for discussions around projects currently under consideration as ways of improving your gaming experience.

After several reports and multiple discussions with the team, we're happy to announce that we're breaking ground on a huge project: a total interface revision.

Our goal is to breath some new life into them, and more! We're going to work on the general ergonomics in order to make them more accessible and efficient. All while keeping the game's spirit - we won't be turning Dofus into anything that it's not currently.

We'll be reworking ALL the interfaces which, as you might imagine, will take lots of time! We're planning to release this revamp along with the release of the 16:9 version in the second trimester of 2016.

In order to do this, and to impact current production flow as little as possible, the DOFUS team has been joined by 2 ergonomists: myself and a graphic designer specializing in interfaces. And since this is the letter to the community (and we can't resist), here are the first concepts we're working on as a free and fresh gift! However, I must insist on the word "concept" because they will certainly change over time, so don't take them to be definitive.

Concept 1
Concept 2

Don't hesitate to let us know what you think about all this in The Dofus Lab! We'll use that space to show you how the project is coming along. Because yes, we'll keep asking for your opinions! We really want to work together with you on this project: know your desires, the problems you've faced, etc. We want to know everything!

Community Challenges

A word from Kylls

The 2.34 update has brought lots of new stuff, spearheaded by the community challenges. This new functionality will let you create challenges for your friends, your guild, your alliance, or even the entire server! Although a few challenges that were by all means impossible appeared in the game, they were removed and everything's back to normal (but watch out: if you see a challenge that requires you to beat Count Harebourg in 2 turns with a single character max, you should probably avoid it!).

While this new feature was created first and foremost to increase interactions amongst players, it's also a veritable goldmine for us, the community managers, thanks to its potential for hosting events.
It's with this in mind that we've proposed the Challenge Race, an event organized in collaboration with three streamers: Humility, Sniikzy and Doflamingoh. They competed to complete the most challenges from those proposed by the DOFUS team.

We understand the concerns that some among you voiced about this event. But we continue to insist on the initial objective, which is how to permit the natural hosts of the community to create and propose even more fun new content, with a little help from us.
Our objective is to be able to offer you a large variety of events and have something to interest each one of you, depending on your personality, your talents, and your style of play (yes, even those that lounge about the Zaaps all day!).

DOFUS TOUCH

A word from Jonquille

It's been about 6 months now that  DOFUS Touch  has been accessible as a closed beta, and the game is almost ready to hatch! You can play it from anywhere, anytime, and with whoever you want!

Although this closed beta took place in France, we plan to release the game in Canada at the end of May. Why Canada first? Simply because it's the country that allows us to launch two versions at once (French and English) and what's more, it will allow us to entice a lot of new players, who have never touched DOFUS, to wander the rich and fertile lands of the World of Twelve. Then, if the game functions well there, it will be available in other countries shortly. For the moment, although we're not announcing an official release date, we're still aiming for the first quarter for the release in France.

Once launched in Canada, the beta will be closed. We know it will be hard - you'll have to be strong and courageous. If it becomes too difficult for you, we suggest you hide your tablet in a corner, and don't look it in the eyes. We're sure it will understand. But be sure to tell it that this will only last a few weeks and that you'll be back very soon.

Nearly 4,000 invitations were sent out for the closed beta, and we'd really like to thank the beta testers for their kindness and their involvement: the ambiance in the game was excellent, and it was thanks to you! Together, for example, we established the welcome guild system.

The leader of the beta's welcome guild, Cait Sith, can tell you more:
"When Nyom contacted me to talk to me about the welcome guild project, I was immediately interested, given that it's already a bit what I was doing when the beta started. Then throughout the discussions, tests, and observing the system in game, I really saw the potential of the welcome guilds in terms of communicating our passion to newcomers in the universe of Dofus. Thanks to various exchanges with the devs through the Community Management team, and their strong interest in creating a successful game,  we've managed to create some features exclusive to DOFUS Touch which will permit, I'm sure, seasoned players to play alongside newcomers. The principle of a welcome guild will fully make sense once the official release comes, and I'm more motivated than ever to take part in this adventure! "

Don't think that DOFUS Touch is simply a port of DOFUS to the tablet! Numerous features are exclusive to this version of the game: for example, the NPC Joris, who will accompany new players all throughout their adventures in Incarnam, the new marketplace which is accessible from anywhere thanks to a simple shortcut button, and even the character creation screen. Your tablet will shiver with pleasure, you can take our word.

WAKFU MMO

A word from the team

Following the content published to the calendar, we'd like to reassure you of two things: first of all, we're working on lots of features and content this year which isn't yet on the calendar, and also, as the Community Managers have confirmed, we're updating it regularly.

We'd like to continue to communicate and converse with you even more, and the calendar, like the letter to the community, is one of the new ways that we can restore that link that we seem to have lost through the years. If there are other formats which would interest you, please let us know in the comments!

Now, let's move on to more serious things like the new features and content we've started working on.

Adjustable Level System

What's that?
It's the ability of a player to virtually reduce the level of their character in order to take part in certain activities, all while gaining rewards adapted to the character's real level.

For example, a level 120 character could do a level 60 dungeon by lowering themselves to level 60, and gain rewards adapted to level 120: experience, money allowing them to get equipment, etc.

What's the objective?
First of all, the Adjustable Level will let you create your own challenges, no matter the actual level of your character, using all of the game's content. The Adjustable Level system will intrinsically change the current perception of player progression: from now on, the more you increase your level, you simply have access to more content, instead of just the high-level content.

The Adjustable Level System will also be a solid base for several future functionalities, revolving around three primary themes:

  • Mutual assistance: play with your friends, no matter their level, while continuing to advance your character,
  • Matchmaking: by welcoming more players into the system and grouping them naturally, the matchmaking systems will function much better,
  • Competition: the Adjustable Level system will bring a competitive aspect to all of the games content while being fair to all players, irrespective of their levels.

In short, it's a new central functionality which will offer numerous perspectives for the future of the WAKFU MMO!

Tutorial

In parallel with Adjustable Levels, we're also working on an enormous project for WAKFU: a complete revamp of the start of the game and its ergonomics.

Why?
Welcoming new players is something of prime importance, and it's been a long time since we've readapted the beginning of the game to our needs, and to the modifications which have taken place these last years. And Incarnam, which is the first area our new players discover, is a little lacking in ambiance, appeal, fun, Wakfu... and something to give a real "whoa" effect in the first few minutes of play.

Concept of Incarnam mob

In a few words:
That's why we're starting by updating the feel of Incarnam. Our objectives for this revamp are:
  • Slowly and gently learn the game mechanics which can sometimes be complex.
  • Introduce the game's ambiance and its unique graphical style.
  • Anchor the game in the Krosmoz transmedia universe.
  • Bring an epic touch, which was missing in the old Incarnam.

The plot of Incarnam will be handled by a transmedia character and will revolve around the notions of Wakfu and Stasis - the mysterious energies at the heart of the Krosmoz. In the same vein, we also want to reintroduce Ogrest fairly quickly, from the beginning of the game...

Concept of Wakfu environment
Concept of Stasis environment

Don't worry if this content doesn't appear in the game in the coming days - it's going to take us some time to be able to deliver content in line with what we have in mind, but we hope that this first bit of information will help you wait.

WAKFU SEASON 3

KROSMAGA

A word from Tot

In terms of scheduling, we'd like to have KROSMAGA finished in 3 months, then follow with 2-3 months of open beta and start the pc, mac and tablet versions right after. Put simply, Krosmaga will be released soon!

We've tried to simplify the game while adding even more depth. The gods and their spells have been reworked in order to accelerate matches and to offer more variety. There's now around 3 game principles per god:

  • Iop: charge mechanisms/initiative/armor and attack buffs

  • Ecaflip: heads or tails/six-sided die (random damage)/combos linked to Bow Meows

  • Cra: long-range shooting/blast spells/direct attacks on the Dofus

  • Eniripsa: heals/control/characteristic changes

  • Sacrier: sacrifice/placement/fury

  • Sram: Traps/+2 mechanics linked to discard

  • Sadida: Everything depends on the management of seeds which will allow the creation of dolls or bushes. The bushes, once placed on the field, will allow you to summon your Sadidas directly on them rather than onto the starting cell.

  • Xelor: Dial/reducing and increasing card costs

The advantages of the game in its current version:

  • We've gained quite a lot in terms of comprehension and readability, all while allowing more interesting and, above all, varied tactical decisions. Now, we once again need to examine it in the context of real matches, and to refine and perfect the balance before opening wide the doors.

  • We've added a special concept concerning around 30 cards. It concerns the most rare type: "infinite". They represent the heros of the Krosmoz at different points in their lives (you could, for example, see the same character at different ages).

These cards have 9 levels which develop in accordance with the actions taken during the match. With each new level reached, you'll receive a "gift".

  • We've also added an extensive collection system. Between ourselves, we call it the "Panini album" and now that we think about it, we're not quite sure what other name could describe it better. There are, throughout this collection, around 300 rewards which are divided into 5 categories.

  • We're also re-examining the character designs and class animations to make them even greater.

Here are some examples of the new characters. The idea here is that these designs serve as references for DOFUS and WAKFU, whether that's for their upcoming content or their next zone or class revamps.

  • Our tests on tablets are progressing well and the first results are pretty promising.

  • In comparison with what we tested in the first alpha, we're also revising all of the interfaces. What do you think?

Selection Interface
In-game interface

The disadvantages of the game in its current version:

  • Currently, the game progresses quite well while the players have numerous cards and create their decks, but is rather troublesome when one's just starting out with very few cards. The matches drag on... We need to work on this part in order to make the entire game more interesting, from start to finish.

  • The gods and their grand death animations cause freezes on tablets. We might have to replace the gods with just a simple medallion or icon. It breaks our hearts, but we'll see - maybe the devs will be able to manage a miracle!

Here's what you'll have when the game is released:

  • 8 gods planned at the start

  • 450 cards to play and collect spread across 5 levels of rarity: common/uncommon/rare/Krosmic/Infinite

  • A chat system and a friends list to let you launch direct challenges

  • 300 rewards for the album spread across 5 different categories:
    • "Puzzle" cards: they let you complete a poster. When you complete the entire illustration, you win a reward.
    • "BG" cards: they'll let you get little texts that describe the universe and its characters.
    • "Video" cards: these offer excerpts of our animated series.
    • "Treasure" cards: rarer and harder to obtain, they'll offer numerous surprises (boosters, kamas, exp...)
    • "Character" cards: these are the rarest cards. These will offer new exclusive cards to play.

And then?

Because we're still going to keep a few things for the end of the year, after the release of the game, we're planning to... you'll see! ;)

PREVIEW OF AN EXTRA-KROSMOZ PROJECT

TACTILE WARS

News from the front:

The color war rages on and despite the floods of paint, the Tactile Wars team is working relentlessly on improving the game.

Several updates are coming in the approaching weeks. The first, planned for two weeks from now, will contain elements that many of you have demanded, like daily gifts, several ways to obtain collectable cards, and the highly-anticipated "solvent", which will let you change colors and join a new army.

The second update will be just like its content: huge and in several parts! It will deal with one of the functionalities the players have been waiting for most: bosses. These mechanical monsters, made of cannons, missiles, mine-launchers, super-rifles, and other marvels of engineering, will be your ultimate defense against invaders.

Each player will be able to construct their own boss by assembling them from parts and then developing them to make them even more unique.

Expect epic challenges - defeating a boss will be no easy task!

Dear Generals, peace is passé! Continue to represent your colors proudly and expect to be surprised by all the new features coming in Tactile Wars.

We have a whole lot of information for you! Everything you need to know about Krosmaster’s World Championship 2016, and changes to the QT season and international rankings. Here we go!

Things are moving in the world of organized play! We have two important topics to discuss today, so let’s not beat around the bush and dive straight into it!

World Championship 2016: additional info

We recently announced the date and place of Krosmaster’s next World Championship. We are now able to provide you with additional information on this tournament made for champions.

First of all, let us remind you that the Championship will be held at Sevilla (Spain) on July 16th, 2016.

Now, we can tell you the event’s exact location: it will be at the Hotel NH Sevilla Plaza de Armas. You can find everything about this hotel and its location by following this link.

Next item on the list: a map! As it is now traditional, we will use a new map for the Championship. Although you might have seen it before if you’ve played the online game… This year, we will use Moon Island’s asymmetrical map, which you can find below:

http://staticns.ankama.com/upload/backoffice/direct/2016-05-02/c16edd66974c4ee2df6c079ca53af187.jpg

Finally, the prizing! Of course, our dearest champions will not come home empty-handed… By going to the tournament, they will able to win the following:

  • For every contestant: a playable map of the event, a commemorative t-shirt, and two Season 4 blind booster display (which will be send to the players as soon as the product is available in their own language).
  • TOP 8: one Cardboard Tube Samurai figurine, one Nemesis Samurai figurine.
  • TOP 4: one Coa Gulary XXL figurine (unavailable to retail!).
  • World Champion: a champion trophy, and the opportunity to design a Krosmaster’s profile for a future release.

If we have any further info concerning the World Championship, we will warn you as quickly as possible.

QT and international rankings modification

In February, we have announced our new ladder system, which will be used as qualification for next year’s World Championship. Several QT have already been played, and more are scheduled in the next few months.

We have received a lot of community feedback on this system, and we listened to you. In order to make the competition fairer and more accessible to all, we have decided to modify the following points of the rules.

There’s no longer a required minimum of players needed to make a QT “official”. As a result, players will now get points on the international ladder related to the numbers of players attending the QT. Here’s how it will work:

  • Tournament with less than 16 players
    • 1st place: 8 points
    • 2nd place: 5 points
    • 3rd and 4th place: 3 points
    • All other contestants: 1 point

  • Tournament with 16 to 31 players
    • 1st place: 12 points
    • 2nd place: 6 points
    • 3rd and 4th place: 4 points
    • From 5th to 8th place: 2 points
    • All other contestants: 1 point

  • Tournament with 32 to 42 players
    • 1st place: 15 points
    • 2nd place: 8 points
    • 3rd and 4th place: 5 points
    • From 5th to 8th place: 2 points
    • All other contestants: 1 point

  • Tournament with 43 to 64 players
    • 1st place: 18 points
    • 2nd place: 10 points
    • 3rd and 4th place: 6 points
    • From 5th to 8th place: 4 points
    • From 9th to 16th place: 2 points
    • All other contestants: 1 point

  • Tournament with 64 players or more
    • 1st place: 21 points
    • 2nd place: 12 points
    • 3rd and 4th place: 8 points
    • From 5th to 8th place: 5 points
    • From 9th to 16th place: 3 points
    • From 17th to 32nd place: 2 points
    • All other contestants: 1 point

The number of points given during National Championships won’t change. Those changes are retro-active, and we will update the current ladder shortly to reflect this.

Finally, in order to get a better spread on their (large) territory, the US competitive scene will get 5 additional QT, for a total of 10 QT and a National Championship.

Thank you for your attention, and don’t hesitate to give us your feedback on this news!

Make the most of the latest update, which now lets you choose between different types of boosters, to collect cards and complete your collections of mercenaries, skins, medals and titles.

You haven't played Tactile Wars yet? It's not too late to get acquainted; quite the opposite: make the most of this new update!

Boosters

Each booster has its own special features. Some include different card rarities; others only contain cards from just one category, in order to maximize your chances of unlocking content you're specifically trying to get.

What's more, you get a free Bronze booster every day: it contains Chance, Gold, or XP Boost cards.

The Color War

This recently-added function will spice up your gaming experience. For a week, starting on every Thursday, each fight you win will make your color gain ground in the world rankings! At the end of the week, you will receive rewards depending on your color's ranking… and then it starts all over again! So, for the common good, choose your opponents wisely!

Skins

Choose from twelve new skins to give your soldiers the look of your choice: UFO, space soldier, witch, or… pig! You should know how to impose yourself!

Hire a Mercenary

Hire a mercenary that you don't yet own for next to nothing, just for one battle. Benefit from their specific skills to overcome those dreaded defenses!

Changing Color

Do you bitterly regret having chosen that color which never lets you rise above the lowest rankings? Betray it! Fight for a more prestigious color! It's immoral, but it's good for your… morale!

Summer is coming… be in harmony: throw on some color!

A gift is waiting for them! Who? All referrers!! Until Sunday, May 29th, they won't receive just 10%, nor 15%, nor 20%, nor even 29%... but 30% of the total amount spent by their referrals!

The idea of referrals is familiar to you: you invite a friend to discover the game, they create an account, and boom! You pocket, in Ogrines, 10% of all their purchases! Everything is explained on this page.

Since its creation in February, no less than ten thousand referrers have thusly received 4 million Ogrines! That merits a little celebration. So all this week, until Sunday May 29th, 23:59 CEST, all current and coming referrers won't just receive 10%, but 30% (in Ogrines) of all their referrals purchases!

You'll be able to offer everyone a round down at the tavern! Cheers!

Update to restriction lists

The Boss list and Ban list are being updated. Find out what has changed here!

And now, a word from our game designer, [Nuuh].

Hello everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve been on these forums. I’ve came back today to talk you about the two restriction lists: the Boss list and the Ban list.

First of all, let’s have a little retrospective on the Boss list’s history. When we first introduced the concept, we were rather confident, both on its principle and on the selection of characters that we made. And today, we’re satisfied of the impact it had on the metagame and how quickly it was assimilated by the community. National Championships have shown a varied metagame, and this year’s first QT show us a satisfying variety as well, comforting us in the choices we made.

The Boss list will evolve along with the new releases, changing and adapting to keep the metagame varied and diversified. Today, we will update it for the first time.

We have decided that the Boss list will be updated every 4 month starting now; however, some updates may not change the Boss or Ban list at all if the situation is stable. The next update will happen around mid-September.

Let’s see what this first revision is offering!

Theo is now banned

Theo leaves the Boss list and joins Klor Ofil in her exile. There’s several reasons for this:

  • When it comes to game design, Theo reduces too much the design space available. To explain further: when comes the time to create a new character, we start by making a base profile who must meet certain criteria depending on what role we’re aiming for that character. Once we’re satisfied, we need to test and monitor its interaction with other figurines.
Theo forces us to abandon many ideas or mechanics that could have seen the light of day without his existence. It’s one of the profiles that “weights” the most on the entire game design process, and we have been considering his removal for several months now.

  • In terms of efficiency, even though he doesn’t dominate the game, we don’t like his influence on the whole team’s strategy, nor is ability to heal himself easily mid- or late-game after allowing a violent push early on.

Poochan is added to the Boss list

Similar to Theo, Poochan influences greatly the design space for future figurines. However, we didn’t want to ban her right out of the gate.

We think that a character that costs so little while having an immense capability for placement must be an important choice when it comes to team building, by taking the Boss slot of the team. We want the players to choose between one of the best placers of the game and a very efficient character (a Boss) as the leader of their team.

This comes together with the philosophy that lead us to put both Luk Ylook and Henual in the Boss list, as they are incredibly efficient support for their small cost in levels.

Furthermore, this will shake up the player’s habits which more often than not included her in their team without a second thought. A great example of the kind of dynamic Boss can add to the game.

Yugo – Young King leaves the Boss list

The presence of this character on the Boss list was essentially due to his incredible synergy with Theo. With the departure of the latter one, we think that Yugo’s return as a non-Boss character will go smoothly.

That’s it for this update. These changes will be applied to tournaments starting June 1st. The next revision of this kind should be published around mid-September.

The Boss list is destined to evolve. Every change we make to it is always a risk, of course, but keep in mind that the number of games we play to test those changes are lower than the amount that you, as a community of players, can make. The place where the real test will happen is between your hands.

The Boss list gives us the possibility of applying temporary and reversible changes. We will try, in the future, to apply the Boss tag right out of the gate on less character, so we don’t condemn them to a perpetual struggle against other Krosmasters from the Boss list.

While we’re at it, let’s talk about the characters who may see their status change in the future, depending on our internal development and the results of tournaments to come:

  • Poochan is still under high scrutiny. We will keep a close look to the changes brought by her addition to the Boss list, and see if this measure was enough.
  • Julith is also watch closely. We want to see if the metagame will be able to absorb her once she’s made available to a larger number of players.

Finally, I want to remind you that the Boss list is here to balance and maintain diversity in the interest of competitive play. At home, between friends, or even in tournaments made for fun, feel free to be creative and play the game as you want. You’re having fun playing Cardboard Tube Samurai with your friend? Keep doing it and enjoy yourself!

As a conclusion, here’s an updated list of restricted characters, for an easy future use:

Current Ban list:

Goldenrod Terminatot
Klor Ofil
Theo

Current Boss list:

Black Crow
Djaul
Ghett Outadier
Henual
Kitty Rage
Luk Ylook
Poochan

See you soon in another tournament!

Spoiler Beyond the Grave: the Monks

Spoilers coming from the newest Krosmaster season are starting to rain! Today, we will have a look at the Monk family, its powers, and its grumpiest member…

Spoiler season has officially begun! You may have already seen a strange sewer rat and a long-ranged skeleton, but this new series of figurines still has a bunch of surprise in store for you. Including today’s spoiler: a member of the Monk family.

None of us really know if the residents of the Messaround Monastery qualify as undead, but their incredibly old age gives them the benefit of the doubt! And they are more than qualified to fill the “horror” quota required to be in a season called Beyond the Grave…

Monks have something in common with the monster tribes of Season 3: they all have the same power. Like Dreggons or Kanniballs, they will increase their strength if played together. Let’s have a look at Friar Tubs’ card to illustrate what we’re talking about:

Friar Tubs is a stubborn, grouchy, and unsubtle person. He’s a short-range character with the ability to help others (and himself) with a combined healing and MP-boosting spell. An all-around solid Krosmaster!

But have a look at his power: if any allied monk KOs an opposing Krosmaster, every single Krosmaster on your team gets +1 AP and +1 MP! A powerful bonus that can lead to some daring tactics. And if another brother of the Monastery does it before Friar Tubs, he can use the bonus immediately to hit twice with his main attack!

But the more seasoned players amongst you are already asking: what if there’s more than one Monk in your team? Quite simple: each of them has the same power, and each of them are activated independently… So if you have 3 monks in your team and one of them finishes an opponent’s Krosmaster, that’s a net bonus of +3 AP and +3 MP for your whole team!

Monks are going to be precious allies on the Arena, together or separately, with a variety of attacks at their disposal. And they still hide a few surprises under their robes…

You just got a spoiler, but the next one is already waiting! And you get to vote for which Krosmaster will be revealed next!

Spoiler Cemetery Park: the Nun

Spoilers from the newest Krosmaster season keep coming through! Before we leave the Messaround Monastery, we should pay our respects to its mistress…

Before we begin, a word of warning. We have up until now presented you this season under the name “Beyond the Grave”; however, due to concerns around the name and the possible confusion with other products, we have decided to change it. Say hello to Cemetery Park! The content of the season will be the same, only the name changes. We’re good? Perfect! Now, on with the featured presentation.

Last time on this column, we’ve met Friar Tubs. It’s now time for you to encounter another resident of the Monastery, and not the least of them… Mother superior of the order, leading the monks with a ghastly grip, coming back from the dead, here comes the Nun!

What a peculiar character! One could think she is slow moving with her 2 MP, yet she can leap forward great distances or catapult a friend with her “Fatebook” spell. Despite having a restrictive range at first glance, her attack spell actually cover a comfortable area of the map. But to really understand how she works on the field, you must know what a Tombstone is:

Tombstones are a new kind of mechanism. Like traps, they don’t block the path on the cell where they rest, so Krosmasters can “walk” on them. They have HP, but they can only lose them in a specific manner: if a Krosmaster move, or is moved, to the cell they’re occupying.

Tombstones are here to scare allied and opposing Krosmasters alike, decreasing their AP but increasing their MP (fear will give you wings!). This spell is cast automatically at the end of every Nun’s turn, which means a character moved by “Fatebook” may be affected by it. It’s your job to use this at your advantage!

With a bit of preparation, the Nun will cover the field with her Tombstones, disrupting the strategies of both teams… Or she might decide to cash them in and become an unstoppable terror for one turn.

Let’s vote!

Our previous vote had crowned the Mopy King; now, tell us which Krosmaster you’re interested in seeing next!

Go on this page and vote for one of the following three characters: the Elite Chafer, the Skidmonk or another monk, the Grim Preacher! The winner will be revealed on our social media pages, so keep your eyes peeled!

Spoiler Cemetery Park: Master Vampire

It’s another class of undead entirely that we will introduce today: the Master Vampire is heading to Cemetery Park! And he brings with him a peculiar token that we will explain in great details…

Not all Krosmaster from our newest season are old, gross, or even decomposed! There’s one of them who’s spared this fate and wears Eternity like a fancy cape: the Master Vampire. Discover his powers by looking at the card below:

A whole un-life to perfect his physique has given this new Boss a remarkable mobility on the battlefield. Imagine Cléophée’s swiftness, except with a much longer range! It will be hard to escape from his clutches. And, as per tradition for blood-sucking creatures, one of his attacks steals health.

But what’s all about the “Servant” marker mentioned on the card? I’m glad you asked! Here it is:

Special markers like these are one of the concepts introduced in the new season. By using some attacks, Krosmasters may put a specific marker on another Krosmaster’s card. Markers don’t have any effect by themselves, but each Krosmaster who uses them have a power which indicates their influence on the victim.

One important thing to note is that Krosmasters only have one marker to use. This doesn’t concern the Master Vampire too much, as his attack can be used only once per game! But picture a Krosmaster whose “marker attack” can be used each turn: in this case, the marker will move from target to target, without duplicating itself. You won’t contaminate the whole opposing team with a single vampire! Finally, markers are removed from the game once their controller is KO’d.

Flying swiftly around the arena, the Master Vampire can only have one slave at his service… Choose wisely!
